No, it’s not in Vermont, but it’s so rad we had to include it. Thunder Mountain Bike Park at Berkshire East Mountain Resort offers a variety of terrain in the woods of Massachusetts. Beginner and intermediate terrain is accessed from the T-Bar Express lift via Sugar Line Trail. Expert terrain and even the pro line Fort Hill trail can be found off of Sleeping Jakes.

The beast is big. Killington features three high-speed lifts that serve more than 30 miles of terrific trails. The bike park is made up of three distinct areas. Snowshed is home to beginner terrain with plenty of intermediate trails to keep progressing once you get the hang of it. Ramshead features the park’s signature freeride trails with intermediate and advanced terrain. Killington Peak is for classic New England trails with plenty of rocks and roots.

Conveniently located about 25 miles from Burlington, Bolton Valley offers 28 trails, with a bevy of expert black diamond and double black runs. You don’t have to be an expert to enjoy Bolton, though. The bike park recently completed a 3.5 mile beginner trail called Ebascootcha that offers a leisurely cruise down the mountain for those looking to build their skills.

Burke Mountain builds on the success of the nearby Kingdom Trails to offer 12 gravity-fed downhill trails that are some of the most interesting slivers of singletrack in the Northeast. For extra downhill time, Burke has three trails that plunge from the mountain’s summit all the way to the downhill floor: The Rude Awakening, Upper J-Bar, and Free Ride. These are accessed by pedalling or shuttling, while the rest of the trails are accessed by chair lift.
