America’s only four-sport triathlon, since 1979!

The Mad River Triathlon is a four-adventure sports event set in Central Vermont’s picturesque Mad River Valley. The event consists of a six-mile run, six-mile paddle down the Mad River, ten-mile bike along gravel and road, and finally skiing up and down intermediate terrain at Mount Ellen. Participate in a relay team, as an individual, or just for certain legs.

We are pleased to announce Rob Center as our 2025 Triathlon Speaker, one of the founders of the original Mad River Triathlon in 1979. Rob will be competing in the event with a team of elite athletes from the eighties.

Mad River Triathlon is a fundraising event for a coalition of four recreation and conservation non-profits. All proceeds support the restoration of the Mad River and the development of sustainable, inclusive, and interconnected recreational infrastructure in the Mad River Valley.

We are making every effort to create an inclusive event by allowing a wide range of equipment, offering group raft rides down the river, allowing you to choose the legs you wish to participate in, and a broad range of categories and accommodations for adaptive athletes. Additionally, if you cannot afford the registration fee, just let us know and we will offer you a reduced registration rate.

This is a green event that strives for zero waste, minimizes its carbon footprint, and restores the riparian forest along the Mad River on behalf of the participants.
