SUMMARY:18th Annual Kelly Brush Ride!
DESCRIPTION:The Kelly Brush Ride is an iconic Northern New England charity event\, bringing people together in support of the mission of the Kelly Brush Foundation: to inspire and empower people with spinal cord injuries to lead active and engaged lives. Kelly sustained a spinal cord injury in 2006 after falling and hitting a lift tower during an NCAA ski race. That fall\, Kelly’s Middlebury College Alpine Ski Team teammates cycled 100 miles the first weekend back to school to raise money so Kelly could purchase a monoski and get back on the hill with them. \nThe money you fundraise for the Kelly Brush Ride helps other people with paralysis purchase the prohibitively expensive adaptive sports equipment they need to enjoy the trails\, the road\, the court\, or any other place we all like to get active. Join us in Middlebury or Ride from Anywhere in 2023! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHow It Works\nStep 1 – Register\nSign up today to ride in Middlebury on September 9 or from anywhere in the world. \nStep 2 – Fundraise\nHelp people with spinal cord injuries\, and earn awesome prizes along the way! Use our fundraising tips and tools to raise money and help them get out and go! \nStep 3 – Ride + Celebrate\nCelebrate the active lifestyles you help create for people with spinal cord injuries on September 9 – in person or virtually! \nRegister Now\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRegistration Period\nRegistration Type\nRegistration Fee + Fundraising Minimum\n\n\n\n\nEarly (Before July 1)\nAdult (Ages 20 & Up)\n$60 + Required $175\n\n\nTeen (Ages 13 – 19)\n$60 + Required $50\n\n\nYouth (Ages 12 & Under)\n$60 + Suggested $25\n\n\nStandard\n(July 1 – August 31)\nAdult (Ages 20 & Up)\n$85 + Required $175\n\n\nTeen (Ages 13 – 19)\n$85 + Required $50\n\n\nYouth (Ages 12 & Under)\n$85 + Suggested $25\n\n\nLate\n(Sept 1 – Sept 6)*\nAdult (Ages 20 & Up)\n$100 + Required $175\n\n\nTeen (Ages 13 – 19)\n$100 + Required $50\n\n\nYouth (Ages 12 & Under)\n$100 + Suggested $25\n\n\nDay Of\n(Sept 9)\nAdult (Ages 20 & Up)\n$125 + Required $175\n\n\nTeen (Ages 13 – 19)\n$125 + Required $50\n\n\nYouth (Ages 12 & Under)\n$125 + Suggested $25\n\n\nAnytime\nHandcyclist\nFREE + Suggested $100\n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Kelly Brush Foundation\n\n\n\n\nAn active lifestyle fuels a healthy body and mind\, allowing us to be the most full version of ourselves. \n\nFor those who have experienced a spinal cord injury\, being active can feel out of reach. The obstacles are real: physical\, financial\, and even the belief it is possible. \nThe Kelly Brush Foundation (KBF) is dedicated to making active lifestyles a reality for those who have experienced a spinal cord injury. We offer the inspiration to believe and the grants to enable anyone to buy the equipment they need to get out and go. But the KBF funds more that just recreation\, because when you’re out there on the hill\, road or trail\, as your heart rate rises and you feel the wind on your face\, disability fades away. An active lifestyle forges connections with others — both new friends and old\, in and out of a chair. \nThe KBF was founded by Kelly and her family after Kelly was injured in 2006 at an NCAA alpine ski race. Since our founding\, we’ve been committed to ski racing safety and will continue to advocate and provide resources so that every ski racer is training and competing on the safest possible venues. \n\n\n\n\n\nMission\n\n\n\n\n\nTo inspire and empower people with spinal cord injuries to lead active and engaged lives. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVisit the KBF Website

SUMMARY:Meeting of The Grind
DESCRIPTION:Slate Valley Trails and MTBVT are proud to present 2023’s Meeting Of The Grinds Cycling Fest\, a two-day celebration of gravel and mtb\, held on Friday\, Saturday\, and Sunday\, September 15th – 17th. Saturday’s epic gravel route options (gravel-duro style – see below) will open your eyes to the wealth of terrain available in this region\, while Sunday’s mountain bike rides will showcase Slate Valley’s seemingly unending singletrack for all ability levels. Each day’s riding festivities will be punctuated with a catered meal and a chance to break bread and tip a few back with with your compatriots. \nNow in its third year\, the event will raise money to support the stewardship efforts of Slate Valley Trails. Festivities are based out of the Fairgrounds Trailhead in East Poultney\, where riders can congregate\, camp\, and access more than 50 miles of purpose-built singletrack and an extensive network of quiet gravel and class IV roads. \nSATURDAY: GRAVEL EXTRAVAGANZA \nSaturday’s gravel rides feature 20\, 40 and 60-mile options with well-stocked aid stations and gorgeous Slate Valley scenery. Competitive folks can compete in a timed “gravel enduro\,” while others can take their sweet time and savor every minute of the ride. Everyone will be treated to an apres repast from our friends at Ranch Camp. \nAbout the gravel enduro format: \nWhat’s A Gravel Enduro? \nThe format of our Saturday gravel event is a “gravel enduro”. A gravel enduro is a mass-start ride with a series of timed segments (also called stages). Participants looking to compete will ride these segments at race pace\, and then can choose to chill out for portions of the route that are not being timed. Finishing times are NOT based on the overall ride time\, but rather on each rider’s cumulative time from the timed segments. Don’t want to compete? Just ride your ride and don’t worry about the timed segments! \nSegments begin with signage communicating approximate distance and end with another sign to let you know that you can relax and resume soaking up the scenery. Segments are flat or uphill and they range from technical (with variable rocks\, roots\, and mud) to smooth packed dirt. \nAwards will be given to the top three riders in the male\, female and gender-diverse categories. Riders in 40-mile and 60-mile distances will be scored together. \nSUNDAY: MOUNTAIN BIKE SINGLETRACK SESSIONS \nSunday features a full-festival party ride on an epic 20-mile singletrack route with optional bailout points for those looking for a shorter ride. This rolling party will sample a breadth of SVT’s epic MTB network\, with several aid stations curated by MTBVT\, Zero Gravity\, and Sram along the way\, as well as wood-fired pizza served up by the TrailHouse. \nThe festival experience will be rounded out with on-site camping\, bike demos\, vendors\, a short film festival featuring local cycling media on Saturday night\, and beverages for purchase including a range of craft non-alcoholic beverages from Aqua ViTea and beers from Zero Gravity. Families with children will find engaging ride options and fun activities for kids. \nCheck out a Grinds Retrospective here. \nEvent Registration \nNEW THIS YEAR – THREE DAY FORMAT WITH WEEKEND CAMPING! \nThis year the festival includes Friday night activities including a meet-n-greet for self guided mellow evening rides\, a BYOBBQ “bring your own BBQ”. \nWe’ll also be hosting camping on Friday and Saturday night. Camping spots require a ticket and are limited (see ticket page). Camping options are “car camping” style adjacent the venue. \nSCHEDULE \nFriday\, Sept. 15th \n2:00pm – Campers welcome (general admission plus camping ticket required) \n4:00pm – “Disorganized” meet-n-greet group rides (self guided ) \n6:00pm – BYOBBQ (Bring your own BBQ) We’ll provide the grills\, you bring the grub \n8:00pm – 10:00pm – Movie (TBD) projected on the barn \n10:00pm – rest up\, you’ve got a big weekend ahead of you \nSaturday\, Sept. 16th – GRAVEL DAY! \n8:00am – Registration opens: sign-up\, demos\, coffee\, snacks \n10:00am – Gravel rides depart \n2:00pm – Return for burritos\, beer\, an epic vendor village\, and bask in the post-ride glory \n4:00pm – VT-gravel bike polo world championships \n6:00pm – BYOBBQ (Bring your own BBQ) We’ll provide the grills\, you bring the grub \n8:30pm – Green Mountain Showdown Local MTB Film Fest excerpts \n10:00pm – ok\, simmer down\, we’ve got another big day of riding tomorrow \nSunday\, Sept. 17th – MTB DAY! \n8:00am – Registration opens: sign-up\, demos\, coffee\, snacks \n9:30 -10:00am – Ride departs on mapped courses \n2:00pm – Return for apres meal and post-ride shenanigans \n4:00pm – Unofficial Foot-down World Championships \n  \n*Special 20% off for members. SUMMARY:Fox Us Open of Mountain Biking - 20th Anniversary
DESCRIPTION:December 22\, 2022 (KILLINGTON\, VT) – The Fox US OPEN of Mountain Biking has announced the 2023 race festival will take place September 21st – 24th at Killington Resort\, following the event’s electrifying return to the East Coast in 2022.   Professional and amateur athletes from around the world are anticipated to compete in the Open Class Downhill for one of the largest cash purses in racing\, and as always\, the Fox US OPEN also offers amateur racing classes in Downhill\, Enduro and Dual Slalom. \n“We’re looking forward to hosting the 20th anniversary of the US OPEN at Killington in 2023. The venue proved once again to be a great home for the USO and we are excited to continue to build on the momentum generated this year” stated Clay Harper\, Co-founder and Event Director of the Fox US OPEN. “Maintaining our goal to cultivate a strong youth DH racing experience and keep it fun for pro athletes is at the core of everything we do.” \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nDakotah Norton racing to the top step of the podium at the 2022 Fox US OPEN in Killington\, VT // Photo: C. Vanderyajt \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nNina Hoffmann on her way to winning the 2022 Fox US OPEN at Killington Resort // Photo: C. Vanderyajt \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“2022 was my first time attending the US OPEN and it was a super cool event! I really liked Killington and it was fun being there with the Syndicate crew and everyone from Fox. It was just a good atmosphere and of course to get the win – for me was a great way to finish off the season. Happy to hear it is coming back in 2023 and I’m looking forward to defending my win!”  – Nina Hoffmann\, Santa Cruz Syndicate \nThe Fox US OPEN of Mountain Biking has long created opportunities for young athletes and accolades to strive toward\, with a history of racers like Richie Rude and Neko Mulally\, who competed as kids in the Downhill back in the mid 2000’s. In 2022\, the Fox US OPEN collaborated with USA Cycling to introduce new Cat 1 age categories for athletes under 15 years old. The biggest moves\, however\, came from young athletes Asa Vermette (15) and Aletha Ostgaard (14) – both earning top five finishes in the Open Class Downhill. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nWomen’s Pro Podium (left-to-right) Kailey Skelton\, Jill Kintner\, Nina Hoffmann\, Aletha Ostgaard\, Mazie Hayden // P: J. Rice \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n“The atmosphere at US OPEN is great! The dual slalom and the best whip were sick! The DH track was insane\, from chunky with roots to manicured jumps – every lap I did was so fun!  Getting on the podium was crazy with all the fast guys there. I was stoked to get 3rd and I am hyped to go back for 2023!” – Asa Vermette \nThe US OPEN Downhill race will remain true to its heritage as an open class event that gives up-and-coming racers the chance to compete against the pros and will again be included in the US Downhill National Series. Racers age 14 & under will also have their shot in the Next Gen Youth Downhill event\, which offers categories for intermediate and expert racers. \nBack by popular demand will be the USO Best Whip\, taking place on a massive set of jumps carved into the base area of the bike park for a premier viewing experience. This invitational competition is a crowd favorite and must see. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nJackson Goldstone competing in the Red Bull Best Whip during the 2022 US OPEN at Killington Resort // P: J. Astleford \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBeyond the competition\, the Fox US OPEN attracts race fans\, freeriders and families with Killington Bike Park remaining open to the public throughout the entire event week. Warm days and cool nights make September a great time to visit Vermont and ride your bike. \n\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n\nGood times at the 2022 Fox US OPEN // P: C.
