SUMMARY:Point to Point\, powered by VSECU
DESCRIPTION:The Point to Point\, powered by VSECU\, is a cycling and running event that was created in 2002 to raise funds and awareness for the Vermont Foodbank’s mission to end the growing problem of hunger in Vermont. Help a neighbor in need and have fun doing it! \nRoad\, gravel\, running\, and mountain bike ride options available….see website for details. \n\n\n\n\n20-Mile Mountain Bike Ride Description\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe following description is offered by STAB\, an association of volunteers responsible for the local networks of multi-use recreational trails on and around Mount Ascutney. The public on-mountain trails\, including a network of hiking-only trails to the summit and the incredible mountain-biking system\, are available to use free of charge at Ascutney Trails.\n \n\nThe 20-mile mountain bike ride is an especially fun ride\, mixing scenic back roads and technical singletrack among several of STAB’s favorite trails.\nAfter a two-mile warmup on flat terrain\, riders will climb to the first section of singletrack with Mount Ascutney towering alongside. Then it’s into the woods for the first of several private trail networks\, open to the public only on two days per year (the iconic Vermont 50 is the other). These trails flow through pine stands and hilltop hay fields\, and descend through the stony ledges of the hillside before popping out onto another quiet country road.\nA short coast down this road brings riders to the first fully-stocked aid station\, run by some of our great volunteers. Then it’s back up a short hill and into the woods. This section is the toughest technical riding\, with a steady dose of tricky pedaling that will keep the best of riders on their toes. Again\, this section ends in a smooth\, fast finish before the second aid station.\nSection three is the final and longest stretch of the course (unless you follow the shortcut signs!). After a brief dirt road climb\, riders enter the acclaimed Ascutney Trails network and start heading back to the starting area to join the P2P Festival. From here\, it is singletrack all the way\, a blend of old-school technical trail and lots of fresh bermed-out flow turns.\nThe final stretch descends the twists and turns of the trails coming off the ski slopes—fast and fun under the afternoon sun.\nAs in previous years\, the 20-mile course can be shortened in a number of areas\, with strategically placed shortcuts along the way for anyone who wants to make up time or avoid a particularly technical section.\n\nVMBA Members receive $20 off registration. SUMMARY:Dirt Magic: Film Screening + Panel
DESCRIPTION:Patagonia MTB presents Dirt Magic\, a film documenting Downieville\, CA’s journey from dying mining town to mountain-biking mecca. Inspired by a desire to save their home trails\, shaped by a grassroots organization’s unintentional stewardship and fueled by the sport’s rowdiest festival\, Downieville’s newest dirt miners are using their reputation to create a model community for struggling mountain towns across the globe—and it all started with a van\, a chainsaw and a few maxed-out credit cards. \nJoin Patagonia after the film for a panel with veteran trail-advocate Jordan Carr and a lineup of advocacy and conservation groups\, as they explore what a high-quality trail experience looks like\, and how a common vision can make it even better for all involved. \nPanelists include:\nFellowship of the Wheel — Vice President Steph Baer\nGreen Mountain Club — Director of Field Operations Keegan Tierney \nVermont Mountain Bike Association — Board President Jeff Dickson\nVermont State Parks — Kathryn Wrigley \nDoors 7 PM\nFilm 7:30 PM \nPatagonia Burlington\n191 College Street\nBurlington\, VT 05401\n@patagoniabtv\npatagoniaburlington.com

Arrive 15 minutes early to sign in and get ready to ride. Riders will be organized into groups based on age and skills where possible. One group will stay closer to the trailhead to work on skills (Strider bikes and beginner level). Another group will ride a beginner trail at the Fairgrounds network. All kids in a group will stick together and ride at a casual pace. \nIf you have a middle-schooler or teen who wants to ride\, and its mostly younger kids\, we can have the middle schooler or teen help lead the younger students\, or if enough volunteers\, we can take them on some other loops that are skill-level appropriate. \nRole of Parents or Guardians\nParents or guardians are welcome to ride. This is not a drop off. As cell service is non-existent at the trailhead\, adults that are not volunteering or riding\, need to stay on-site during the program. \nWhat to Bring\nChildren and adults must bring a bike\, wear properly fitting helmets and closed toe footwear. Bicycles must have hand brakes\, and remember to safety check bicycles prior to attending to make sure everything is tight and in working order. Additionally\, bring your own water bottle and bug spray\, and check for ticks post-ride. Please leave your dogs at home (sorry). \nNeed a Bike?\nIf a parent or guardian\, or child wants to ride\, and needs a bicycle\, and is a resident of Castleton or Poultney\, you may rent a bicycle at a discount from Johnson and Son Bike Works through the Library Bike Pass program available at the Poultney Public Library or the Castleton Free Library. If you are not a resident\, you may also get a rental discount if you mention you are participating in this SVT program.\nPoultney Public Library: (802) 287-5556\nCastleton Free Library: (802) 468-5574 \nSigning Up\nIf you think you can make it an RSVP is highly suggested\, but not required. If possible\, please print and sign in advance\, to save time on the day of. \nWeather/ Rain Date\nIf weather doesn’t cooperate\, we will try to send out a Facebook Update and Instagram Update\, later in the afternoon\, but we likely will make the call from the Trailhead (where there is no cell coverage). We got lucky this Wednesday and only had sprinkles! \nIn order to make this work for the rest of the summer and for next season\, we will be seeking more volunteers (teens to adult) to assist. If you’d like to volunteer\, email Silvia at silvia@slatevalleytrails.org. We are really excited to host this event!

SUMMARY:Tour de Valley
DESCRIPTION:REGISTRATION OPENS JULY 1ST! \n\n\n\n\nGuided ride of the Pleasant Valley trail system\n\n\nEarly registration for BRMBC members with reduced fee starts July 1.\nLimit of 175 riders! There will be NO day-of registration!\nSaturday\, August 17.  Rain or shine.\nRide starts at 9:00 AM – check-in and ride group signup open at 8:00 AM\nThe traditional Tour is typically 30 – 35 miles and requires 5-6+ hours.  The Cross Valley route offers a long but less technical option. The Kid’s Ride will take 2-3 hours. (Additional detail below)\nWater and sports drinks provided on trail.  Come prepared with your own food for the day.\nFamily event with rides for all abilities\n\n\nPost ride feast\nRaffle\nSwimming\nBouncy house for kids\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCross Valley Tour\nOffered again this year for those who may not be in the mood for the rigors of the traditional Tour de Valley\, the Cross Valley Tour will include approximately 22 miles of low-traffic gravel roads\, doubletrack carriage roads\, easy singletrack\, and a few short segments of pavement to get it all connected.  The mileage can be reduced to either 16 or 18 miles by opting for one of two bail-outs and the easy singletrack can be eliminated as well.  The route proceeds from Pleasant Valley over to the Brewster River valley and the new Midlands trails built by the BRMBC\, then continues into Jeffersonville where a Creemee stop is highly recommended!  Finally it’s back to the Schneider’s field for relaxation and re-hydration (or a bit more riding on the Schneider zone if desired).\n\nKid’s Ride\nThe TDV kid’s ride will leave at 9 AM\, riding for 2-3 hours with breaks. Ride will be 90%+ single track\, so kid’s should have intermediate to advanced skills and be ready to ride some hills. No daycare provided after the ride\, so parents should arrange for someone to meet back at the venue around 11.\n\n\nLocation:  569 Irish Settlement Rd\, Underhill\nlook for parking signs
